At Hospital Nacional Rosales in San Salvador, one of the pioneering emergency medicine residency programs in El Salvador, Dr. Carlos Godinez and the residency faculty have been building point-of-care ultrasound into the care their patients receive every day. Atlas Global Health supported that work with a portable ultrasound device and comprehensive training for the residency team. The device stayed at Rosales. So did the knowledge
This partnership began with an introduction, which is how so much of Atlas's work begins. Dr. Daniel Ridelman of Wayne State University, a collaborator of ours from earlier work together, introduced us to Dr. Whitney Bryant and her team at the University of Cincinnati. That connection brought Cincinnati's ultrasound educators alongside the team at Rosales, and it is a good example of what our network is for: the right people finding each other, across institutions and across borders, in support of a local team.
The work at Hospital Nacional Rosales belongs to its physicians and its residency. They deliver the care, they train each new class of residents, and they decide where ultrasound goes next in their hospital. Atlas's part, together with the University of Cincinnati team, was to support a strong local program with equipment, teaching, and an introduction that turned into a partnership.
